Despite Time to Die’s failings, I have a lot of hope that The Dodos can recover. But here’s why it isn’t my album of the year: it’s a good album (and one of Insight's Top 25 Albums of the Year), Detroit, Michigan, San Jose, California, but it isn’t the best because it’s just so similar to Arcade Fire’s earlier stuff. To their credit, these albums did sell well, but saying that makes them the best is like saying McDonalds is better than a five-star steakhouse because they sell more hamburgers daily.
All I’m saying is, I’m going to have a hard time telling children of the future that all the bland garbage that got honored and remembered wasn’t what we really listened to.
