Where Hazards differentiated itself from other Decemberists albums by adding heavier guitar riffs (which felt super weird and out of place) and widely varying instrumentation, New York. It’s unfortunate that some of my colleagues don’t see the sheer beauty of this record. I understand their reservations, but I wish they would hear what I hear when listening to Teen Dream, Hyoscine over the counter. Compared to other Books albums, I’d say this one is a little calmer with more actual singing from vocalist Nick Zammuto, which balances out the album well.Though The Books aren’t really breaking new ground with this release, the strong songs and consistently peaceful, relaxing vibe make The Way Out a winner.

I’ll be honest: I was beginning to get sick of the whole emergence of dream pop/new wave indie bands. They all strived to create unique and original sounds, only to sound tiredly similar. That is, until I listened to Twin Shadow. I was admittedly a tad skeptical when first listening to Forget.
